Wat Saman Rattanaram
Wat Saman Rattanaram has a peaceful location on a large island in the Bang Pakong River. There are several temples, also on the riverside, nearby which you visit by boat after seeing Wat Saman Rattanaram.
Wat Sanam Rattanaram is an unusual temple in that it features 6 main statues dedicated to both Hinduism and Mahayana Buddhism deities as well as a replica of one of Myanmar’s most important religious sites.
The six statues are:
Ganesh:
This brightly coloured 22 metre long and 16 metre tall statue of the Hindu god Ganesh is the most popular attraction at Wat Sanam Rattanaram.
Many Thai Buddhists worship Hindu deities. Hindu gods are believed to each have special characteristics.
Ganesh is known as the problem solving god. Believers flock to Wat Sanam Rattanaram to make a wish to Ganesh by whispering in the ear of one of 8 statues of rats at the base of the Ganesh statue.
According to believers, you need to pick the right rat to deliver your wish to on the basis of the time and date of your birth.
Guan Yin:
Guan Yin is the Goddess of Mercy for Mahayana Buddhists and is widely worshipped in Vietnam and China. The statue is ornate and Chinese in style.
Indra:
Depicted riding on the three headed elephant, Erawan, Indra is the Hindu King of the Gods.
Brahma:
Brahma is the four faced Hindu God of Creation. His statue faces the river.
Naga statues:
Naga are mythical serpents who rise from the underworld to inhabit the Mekong River, amongst other places.
Wat Sanam Rattanaram features several brightly coloured statue of Naga appropriately positioned along the river bank.
Golden Rock:
This statue is a replica of the famous rock in Myanmar which is painted gold and features a small pagoda on top enshrining a hair of the Lord Buddha.
